Hoping To Get Better But....

8th of July, 2016.

It is now day 5 of red, teary, swollen and photophobic eye I experienced. It never get any better, any little bit so I am worried sick. Tomorrow I should be working and holiday has come to an end. Husband asked me to go see the doctor once again and I get up, leave with husband and kids to the same clinic we went the other day.

Told the doctor my problems and he seems to be taking notes and reading the notes on my previous meeting with him. Then he decided I could clean up my eyes with some solution (I guess, didnt ask him what kind of 'solution' he used on cleaning up anything that stuck in my eye because that time I also felt like there's something like my eyelash stuck inside my eye.

After we finished the procedure, I then sat in front of the doctor again and discussed what should I do next should the problem persist. So he asked me to come again to the clinic TOMORROW if my eye still in pain. Paid another RM 60 before we went back home with high hopes that my eye would be better as I get up tomorrow morning.

First Doctor Visit

It was 5th of July, 2016. Second day of Eidul Fitri. We planned to visit my grandmother, Opah, and other relatives who currently spending time for their raya in Ipoh, Perak. So off we go..!! From Seremban to Ipoh.

But before that, we stopped by at our house, to do some laundry and I REALLY NEED TO SEE OUR DOCTOR. But it was the festive week of Hari Raya, so the clinic was closed. Husband tried to find another clinic that can look into my problem, i really need some medication to ease the pain as Malaysians always said "I cannot tahan anymore worrr..."

Round and round we go, there's a 24 hour clinic that was open for service that time. I insist of stopping by even though there's no sign of our insurance care provider signage on the door and I really dont care. I NEED A DOCTOR!!

There's no one inside the clinic, and i did not get the chance to wait a bit but they just called me in. So i told the doctor what happened to my eyes and so the glare (because it happened because of contact lenses and i think most doctors hate contact lens as it is always make people go and see them because of infections or so forth)

There, I got prescribed with Shinacol 0.5% eye drops and paid RM80.

4th of July, 2016. The nightmare begins...

It was 4th of July, 2016 and it was the jolly happy festive day of Eidul Fitri. 

I was getting ready as early as 6am in the morning and slept at 3am, preparing meals for our special day breakfast and getting all of the family member's attires ironed and ready to wear.

As two of my daughters and my husband has ready to rock the road for our Eidul Fitri journey, me, on the other hand were busy packing food and putting aside all the bags and things to bring back to my husband's hometown, Seremban.

So after everything were ready and the kids already set on their carseats, i went inside and wore my contact lenses. OUCHH!! maybe it didnt fit well. So i take it off, and rinse again with the solution, and put it back on my eyes. Wallah! i am all set. 

So we went to the mosque and we waited for my husband to finish his Eidul Fitri prayer, the kids fell back asleep as they don't usually woke up very early in the morning. While waiting, I felt something was not right with my left eye contact lens. I remember I have another new pair of colored contact lens in the dressing table drawer. It seems like there was no sign of the prayer to finish in quite some time, so i drove back to home to get the lenses.

Got home, washed hands, wore the new pair of lenses and discarded the used lenses. Yay!! No more pain but my flu suddenly worsen (note that I didn't get enough sleep so i usually got runny nose and head ache after sleepless night.) Never thought of anything bad would happen as I am a frequent wearer of contact lenses since 14 years ago, since i was 15 years old.

Reached my in laws, happily celebrated Eidul Fitri with the in laws. Suddenly i felt like my lashes fell inside my eyes so i asked my husband to have a look at it. But to make things worst, he was shocked to see my redden eyes. I went to the toilet as fast as i could and took off the lenses and throw it away. Since then, I wore my spectacles who happen to be my bestfriend now along with the sunglasses.

So the day went on with my red, teary eye, and photophobic condition. As time passes by, my eyes did not show any signs of getting better like it usually do anytime i got red eyes wearing contact lenses. I started to worry and ask my husband to take me to the clinic as i dont think this time around it was redness like before. This must be something serious....

Acanth... what??!!

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim...

So yes, today marks the date I decided to blog about my Acanthamoeba Keratitis (AK) journey. Its 8th of August 2016 and its already a month plus four days i'm juggling with this AK thingy. Acanthamoeba known as the super nasty protozoa which is very common in nature such as bodies of water, soil and air.

...and when it affects your eyes when you have abbrasion/ tear on your cornea, it means you are now affected with Acanthamoeba Keratitis.

It will be on this blog but not just yet. I'm struggling and trying very hard just to see the lights, so can you imagine how I sit and blog about this? It takes me 4hours to write all this up with the lowest brightness display on my computer. My goodness!


P.S: I will blog mostly in English but here and there i will insert my mother tongue language, Bahasa Melayu. i've already joined the Acanthamoeba Keratitis Support Group on FB and i thought most of my fellow friends there would love if they could join in reading my arduous journey of Acanthamoeba Keratitis.
